Il Gran Premio di Indonesia sfida il paddock MXGP
L’inaugurale MXGP di Indonesia, tenutosi a Pangkal Pinang in balia della stagione delle piogge, e’ Stata una bella ma impegnativa vicenda.
La forte pioggia la protagonista del week-end, come le paure in crescendo fino alla fine della settimana. Il sabato prendono il via le prove libere, ma la prova di Valentin Guillod e Alessandro Lupino viene compromessa, come peraltro per tutti i partecipanti, dalle condizioni del circuito, la gara di qualifica viene per cio’ annullata nel tentativo di risparmiare ulteriori danni alla pista allagata.
Le prove del sabato si trasformano in una lotteria, la pista una prova di sopravvivenza. Dopo le prove libere del mattino, l’unica corsa della giornata, Guillod e Lupino si aggiudicano rispettivamente un incoraggiante 7° e 8° giro veloce.
La domenica inizia ancora meglio per Guillod che supera la sessione di warm-up cercando ancora una volta di sopravvivere alle condizioni. Tuttavia nuovamente la pioggia detta il gioco. La prima gara è stata una vera lotta nel fango, incredibile come i piloti hanno dovuto fisicamente lottare con le loro moto attraverso le condizioni appiccicose. Guillod torna a casa solitario al 19° posto mentre Lupino ha lottato per la 24° posizione.
Mentre ci si prepara per la seconda gara, la pioggia scende copiosa ancora una volta, le condizioni della pista peggiorano cosi’ drasticamente tale per cui viene presa la decisione di annullare la seconda gara, purtroppo non ci sara’ alcuna possibilità per il duo Assomotor di migliorare i loro risultati.
Entrambi i piloti sperano in condizioni climatiche decisamente più favorevoli per il prossimo MXGP di Argentina in programma il 19 marzo.

“L’Indonesia è stata una gara molto difficile per tutti, non solo a causa delle condizioni climatiche, ma a causa del limitato tempo in pista con la cancellazione di gara due e gran parte delle prove del Sabato. Quando le condizioni sono cosi’ difficili, diventa una lotteria e la questione e’ saper stare in piedi. E ‘dura per i piloti e per le moto che a causa del peso supplementare generato dal fango non riescono a prendere il ritmo e trovare il giusto feeling. La performance del sabato ragionevole con la 7 ° e 8 ° posizione, ma poi purtroppo gara uno non e’ andata allo stesso modo – imprevedibile il risultato in pista con quelle condizioni climatiche. E ‘stato un weekend difficile per tutti, ma ora ci dobbiamo concentrare sull’ Argentina basandoci su quello che abbiamo fatto ad inizio stagione”
Challenging Grand Prix of Indonesia for the MXGP paddock
The inaugural MXGP of Indonesia, held in Pangkal Pinang, was a beautiful but challenging affair which was at the mercy of the weather during the region’s rainy season.
Heavy rain was the story of the weekend as fears started to grow in the run up to the weekend. Saturday’s running got underway with free practice, but Valentin Guillod and Alessandro Lupino, like the rest of the field, found their running compromised as the qualifying race was cancelled in an effort to save further damage to the water-logged track.
Saturday’s running turned into something of a lottery, and was more of a case of survival out on track. After the morning’s free practice, the only running of the day, the pairing of Guillod and Lupino were an encouraging 7th and 8th fastest respectively.
Sunday started even better for Guillod as he topped the morning warm-up session as the field again just tried to survive the conditions. Once again, however, rain dictated play. The first race was a real mudder and incredibly physical as the riders had to wrestle their bikes through the sticky conditions. Guillod came home a lonely 19th whilst Lupino struggled home in 24th.
Whilst preparing for the second race, the rain thundered down once again and the track conditions were so bad that the decision was made to cancel the second race, so sadly there was no chance for the Assomotor duo to improve upon their results.
They will both be hoping for much more favourable weather for the next MXGP in Argentina on 19th March.

“Indonesia was a very challenging race for everyone, not just with the weather but because of the limited time on track with the cancellation of race two and much of Saturday’s running. When conditions are that tricky, it becomes something of a lottery and it’s all about just staying on and staying upright. It’s tough on riders and the bikes because of all the extra weight of the mud and becomes very difficult to get any rhythm or good feeling. The performance on Saturday was reasonable in 7th and 8th, but then unfortunately race one didn’t quite work out the same way – it can be as unpredictable on track as the weather was. It was a difficult weekend for everyone there, but now we must refocus on Argentina and building upon what we’ve started this season.”
